Polyvinylpyrrolidone as a Corrosion Inhibitor for Carbon Steel in a Perchloric Acid Solution: Effect of Structural Size

Polymers are materials composed of macromolecules characterized by duplicates smaller molecules that covalently bonded together to provide a set properties. Corrosion inhibition such compounds is usually attributed their adsorption on the metal-solution interface. The effect different sizes polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) corrosion carbon steel (C-steel) in solutions perchloric acid was investigated. efficiency increases as size inhibitor and its concentration increases, but decreases temperature can reach value 81.53% 5.0x10^-3 mol L^-1(PVP: 58,000 g mol^-1) at 30°C. most remarkable confirmed presence film formed metal surface scanning electron microscopy. kinetic thermodynamic parameters for C-steel were determined discussed. combination PVP with potassium iodide produced strong synergistic leading significant improvement efficiency.
